This project is undertaken by the GMR Infrastructure-led consortium of GIL-SEW-ETF and France – STUP for construction of 417-km long Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor railway project. The project is estimated to cost Rs 5,080 crore and is being implemented on Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) basis.

The project involves designing and construction of civil structures and track works for Double Line Railway. To cater to the growing demand of traffic, the Indian Railways is increasing its throughput. Heavy Axle Load (CC+8+2 loading on BOXN) has been introduced on many identified routes for increasing freight transportation. Dedicated Freight Corridors are to be constructed for higher axle load of 25t/32.5t. Feeder routes to these Freight Corridors are also to be strengthened for 25t axle load. Most of the routes constructed on Indian Railways, earlier provided for lower axle load traffic (20t to 22.5t).

The project, funded by World Bank, is divided into two packages – package 201 stretches from Mughalsarai to Allahabad and package 202 stretches from Allahabad to Kanpur.

The Letter of Intent or LOI for this project was awarded to GMR Infrastructure on May 2015 and work for this project commenced in November 2015.

MP Birla Concrecem OPC grade-43 cement is used in this project.
